Shaq's Son Shareef Is Transferring To LSU Because Everyone Knows Shaq Got Rich Playing In College

Somewhat significant news here. Shareef O'Neal, who was originally at UCLA, decided to transfer to LSU. You know, the place where his father - some guy named Shaq played.

Shareef missed all of last year because of a heart problem. He had to have emergency surgery in what was a pretty scary situation for a guy who was a top-50 recruit.

He didn't necessarily live up to the hype this year. He was averaging just over 2 points and 2 rebounds per game while playing 10 minutes per game under first year head coach Mick Cronin. That said he knows what's ahead of him at LSU and he's openly talking about it.

"Real big footsteps," he said in explaining his decision to play at the same school where Shaquille O'Neal was a two-time All-American. "But I'm ready for it. Great program. Louisiana is a different scene. I've been in L.A. most of my life, but I'm ready for it.

It's not a surprise he picked LSU. He went on an official visit pretty quick after he announced his transfer. But this just shows that Will Wade - FBI investigation and all - has this program rolling. This is a big time transfer as he expects to lose guys again this offseason to the NBA, graduation, etc.

Shareef's college experience has been well, unique to say the least. He originally committed to Arizona then decommitted during the whole FBI investigation into Arizona. He then went to UCLA where he had that emergency heart surgery and struggled to get PT this year. Now he heads to LSU.
